Questions people
actually ask

Basics
4
Can I see the place first?

Yes. Viewings run on weekday afternoons and most Saturday mornings.

How long is a room held?

Two days after a viewing. After that it goes back into the list.

Who lives here?

Mostly undergraduates from the two nearby campuses, and a few postgraduates.

Is there somewhere to study?

Two rooms on the ground floor, open around the clock during term.

Applying & Leases
8
How do I apply for a room?

Pick a layout, choose your dates and fill in the form online. Applying as a group, everyone picks the same layout so the system keeps you together.

What does per-room renting mean?

You sign for your own room and pay only your share. If a flatmate leaves, their rent is not passed on to you.

What do I need to hand in?

A signed agreement, one form of photo ID and proof that you are enrolled.

Do I need a guarantor?

Only if your income is not regular yet. Most students name a parent; anyone in steady work can do it.

How long does an answer take?

Usually the same working day, at the latest the next one. You hear either way rather than waiting.

Can I choose who I live with?

Put their names on the form and we keep you together where the layout allows.

How are flatmates matched?

On practical things only: year, course hours and how late you keep.

Do you take international students?

Yes. A guarantor abroad is fine, or you can pay a term in advance instead.

Rent, Deposits & Bills
5
Is anything included in the rent?

Heating, water, wifi and the shared rooms. Electricity is metered per flat and billed monthly.

How much is the deposit?

One month, held in a government-backed scheme.

When do I pay the deposit?

When you sign, not when you enquire.

When does the deposit come back?

Within ten days of the final check, unless something is damaged.

Can I pay rent monthly?

Yes, on the first working day of each month by standing order.

Moving In & Out
6
Are the rooms furnished?

Bed, desk, chair, wardrobe and shelving in every room.

What is in the kitchen?

A cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave and a washing machine per flat.

Do I bring my own bedding?

Yes. Everything else you need is already there.

Can I stay over the summer?

Summer terms run on shorter agreements, and you can keep the same room.

How much notice do I give?

One month in writing, any time after the first term.

What happens at the final check?

We walk the room with you and note anything beyond ordinary wear.

Living & Repairs
3
What if something breaks?

Report it in the resident portal. Heat, water or door faults are looked at the same day.

Who do I call out of hours?

The number on your agreement reaches someone every night of the year.

Are there quiet hours?

Eleven at night to seven in the morning, every day.
